​When Hypnosis for Birth Preparation Does Not Work

 
Numerous strategies for birth preparation have been used since doctors began experimenting with hypnosis in the 1950s.

Three recent large Randomized Controlled Trials (RCTs) in 2013 and 2015 demonstrate that hypnosis preparation is clearly ineffective in reducing surgical intervention, medication use or length of labour.

​Shawn’s review of 43 published studies, reviews and articles from 1960 to the present examined what key aspects are necessary to ensure that hypnosis preparation for birth actually accomplishes what it is intended to do.
